The story follows (Max Riemelt), a 17-year-old gifted boxer from a working-class background in Berlin. Against the wishes of his anti-Nazi father, Friedrich joins an elite Napola academy, viewing it as his ticket to a better life and university education.

At the school, he meets (Tom Schilling), the sensitive and artistic son of a high-ranking regional governor. Bud Boomer is a former American Sheriff from Niagara County who doesn't like Canadian beer but does enjoy wearing flannel. After many years in law enforcement, followed by a few rotations overseas as a contractor with Hacker Dynamics (on the same PSD team, he's proud to say, as Bert Gummer, Tom Evans, and Walter Langkowski).
