The year is 2002. In a cramped apartment in São Paulo, Tiago is a "fansubber"—one of the unsung heroes who translates foreign films for the Brazilian underground. He spends his nights in the glow of a CRT monitor, syncing text files to grainy pirated videos. Tiago expects a typical American horror movie

The final segment is a ritual gone wrong on New Year’s Eve, 1999. As the clock strikes midnight in the video, Tiago’s apartment loses all power. The only light comes from the monitor, which is now displaying a single line of subtitles in bright yellow: "Shredding" (The Ghost in the Machine) They say

The first segment shows a punk band in 1999 breaking into an abandoned mall. As Tiago translates their dialogue into Portuguese, he notices something impossible: the lead singer is wearing a t-shirt from a Brazilian band that didn't form until 2005. He pauses the frame. In the reflection of a store window, he sees himself—sitting in his 2002 apartment—watching them. 2. " Suicide Bid " (The Living Translation)

A twisted game show segment begins. Tiago realizes the "host" is speaking directly to him. The host stops the show, looks into the camera, and says in perfect, unaccented Portuguese: "Tiago, a tradução exige um sacrifício" (Tiago, the translation requires a sacrifice). The video file size begins to grow exponentially, devouring his hard drive space like a digital cancer. 4. "The Gawkers" (The Digital Voyeur)
