The smell of hot oil and burnt rubber hung thick in the cool English air as Jeremy, Richard, and James stood on the cracked tarmac of the Top Gear test track. Behind them sat three vehicles that perfectly encapsulated the glorious, chaotic mess of British automotive history. Jeremy went first

The challenge was simple, or so they claimed: a relay race across the airfield, navigating a custom-built obstacle course that included a mock high street, a flooded ditch, and a straight-line sprint.

James crossed the finish line just a fraction of a second before the Stig could clip his bumper. He brought the giant vehicle to a shuddering halt and stepped out, looking remarkably pale.
