The Defiant One " is the 12th episode of the first season of Stargate Atlantis , first airing in 2005. The episode is a self-contained, high-tension survival thriller that pits Major John Sheppard and Dr. Rodney McKay against a single, exceptionally powerful Wraith survivor.

Though still known for his "girly fear," McKay shows significant growth by uncharacteristically leaving safety to aid Sheppard in the final fight.

On the surface, they find a downed Wraith supply ship. Inside, they discover evidence of horrific survival tactics: the Wraith crew resorted to cannibalism once their human "food" supply ran out.
