Lars von Trier's is the first half of a provocative, two-part epic exploring the life of Joe, a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac. The film is structured as a series of flashbacks Joe recounts to an aging bachelor named Seligman, who finds her beaten in an alley and takes her in to recuperate.
