In the crime drama Georgetown (2019), Christoph Waltz makes his directorial debut while starring as Ulrich Mott, a charismatic and eccentric social climber who infiltrates the highest ranks of Washington, D.C., society. The film is a fictionalized account of the notorious 2011 murder of 91-year-old socialite Viola Herms Drath by her much younger husband, Albrecht Gero Muth.

The narrative unfolds through a series of chaptered flashbacks triggered by a present-day murder investigation. When Elsa is found dead in their Georgetown home, her suspicious daughter Amanda (Annette Bening) works to expose Ulrich's deceptive facade as the police begin to uncover a web of lies far deeper than a simple quest for social status.
