To write a respectful character, treat her as you would any other woman, but with the understanding that she has experienced the world as a trans woman. For a proper write-up, focus on her personality, her voice, and her personal goals rather than focusing on her physical anatomy.
Do not focus entirely on whether she "passes" as cisgender. This can imply that a trans woman's worth is tied to how well she hides her history.
"Trans" is an adjective. Write "a trans woman," not "a transwoman".
Give her goals, personality, and agency that exist outside of her romantic or sexual life.
Trans people have mundane lives, interests, and flaws, just like anyone else.
The core rule is to think of her as a woman—no buts, no asterisks. Her transness is a part of her, not the entirety of her identity.
Do not use "shemale," "he/she," or "tranny." These are considered offensive and hurtful.
