The film centers on (Shantilal Mukherjee), a powerful theater personality and political leader. In an attempt to bridge his two worlds, he decides to produce Tagore’s Rakto Karobi . Bhattacharya shifts the setting to the present-day political landscape of West Bengal, using Tagore’s themes to critique modern democracy, independence, and the corruptive nature of power. Core Themes & Symbolism The film draws deeply from the Symbolism of the Original Play : Red Oliender's Roktokorobi (2017) As rehearsals progress, the lines between the stage and reality blur. The "King" of the theater group begins to mimic the tyrannical King of Yakshapuri, while his star actress, Nandini (Mumtaz Sorcar), finds herself embodying the spirit of defiance and natural beauty that challenges his authority. Amitava Bhattacharya’s is a modern, meta-textual retelling of Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic 1924 symbolic play. Rather than a straight adaptation, the film follows a contemporary theater troupe attempting to stage the play, only for the actors to find their own lives increasingly mirrored by the political and social tensions of the original text.
