Desperate for respect, romance, and most importantly, military discounts at participating restaurants, Marcus, Jason, Grumio, and Aurelius decide to enlist in the Roman army during what they believe is a time of "eternal peace". However, their plans for an easy ride are ruined when war is suddenly declared. The group is sent to a front-line garrison on the edge of the Empire to face off against "Barbarians" in a conflict they don't believe in, turning their focus from social climbing to basic survival.
