The game follows , a man caught in Purgatory after a tragic car accident that killed him and his wife, Catherine. While Catherine ascended to Heaven, Daniel is trapped, serving as both the "Toy of Light" and the "Curse of Darkness". To finally reunite with his wife, Daniel makes a deal with Death (and the forces of Heaven) to collect 7,000 souls from the demonic armies of Hell.
