Opossum -

Once, in the silver-dappled shadows of an ancient oak tree, lived a "white beast" known as Pip. Pip was a Virginia opossum, a creature whose kind had wandered the earth since before the dinosaurs vanished. With his 50 sharp teeth—more than any other North American mammal—and a prehensile tail that acted like a fifth hand, he was a master of the night.

One evening, while foraging for his favorite snacks of fallen fruit and crunchy beetles , Pip encountered a Great Horned Owl . Knowing he couldn't outrun the feathered hunter, Pip leaned into his ancient superpower: he simply "died". His body went stiff, his mouth fell open in a ghastly grin, and he emitted a scent so foul the owl mistook him for a week-old carcass and flew off in search of fresher prey. opossum
