The film follows Spencer Davenport and his younger sister Katherine as they travel alone to visit their father for the holidays. When the storm hits, they are confined to a room for "unaccompanied minors" (UMs). Spencer joins forces with four other kids—the wealthy Grace, tomboy Donna, geeky Charlie, and the comic-loving Timothy "Beef" Wellington—to escape the room and outwit the grumpy airport manager, Oliver Porter. Their goal is to retrieve a gift for Katherine so she doesn't lose her faith in Santa Claus, while eventually transforming the dreary terminal into a festive celebration for all the stranded passengers.
