Pambansang Awit Ng Pilipinas — Lupang Hinirang 2022

The anthem’s origins are deeply rooted in the 1898 revolution against Spanish colonial rule. Commissioned by President Emilio Aguinaldo, the music was composed by Julián Felipe as an instrumental march entitled "Marcha Nacional Filipina". It was first performed on June 12, 1898, during the historic proclamation of independence in Kawit, Cavite. It was only later, in 1899, that the lyrics were adapted from "Filipinas," a Spanish poem written by José Palma. This timeline highlights that the anthem was born out of a practical need for a unifying song to rally a nation seeking its own sovereignty. "Lupang Hinirang," the Philippine National Anthem, is more than just a musical composition; it is a profound declaration of Filipino resilience, identity, and the enduring spirit of independence. While it has evolved through various languages and eras, its core message remains a stirring tribute to the struggles and triumphs that have shaped the Philippines into the "Pearl of the Orient".
