The interrogation room was painted a color that could only be described as municipal despair. A flickering fluorescent light hummed at a frequency that vibrated right at the base of Susan’s skull. Across the metal table sat Detective Lancing, tapping a plastic ballpoint pen against her notepad. That's not surviving
She looked up and saw Christopher. He wasn't the tired, balding, stressed man she had seen in the holding cell. He was her dashing leading man, wearing a fedora tilted perfectly over his eyes. He stepped out of the fog, holding a small bouquet of violets.
