Years after the events of The Final Chapter , a grown-up (Thom Mathews) remains haunted by his childhood encounter with Jason Voorhees. Hoping to find closure, Tommy and his friend Allen dig up Jason's corpse at Eternal Peace Cemetery to cremate it.
In a fit of rage, Tommy stabs the body with a metal fence post. Just then, a freak bolt of lightning strikes the post, acting as a conductor and jolting Jason back to life in a scene inspired by 1931's Frankenstein .
