The game begins with Jack waking up tied to the steering wheel of a Porsche 911 Carrera S in an Oakland scrapyard. The Mob intends to crush him along with the car as "payment" for his debt. Through a series of quick-time events, Jack narrowly escapes and steals an Audi RS4 to evade his captors.
Sam Harper, Jack's business partner, manages his entry into the race and guides him across the country.
