In February 1989, the historic 1921 Lowestoft fishing smack Excelsior was officially recommissioned as a sail training vessel following an extensive restoration. This milestone returned the vessel to its original "as built" condition, allowing it to begin a new era as a living museum and active participant in maritime heritage events.
