The story begins with a young boy named Cody who rescues a rare, giant golden eagle named from a poacher's trap. In gratitude, Marahute takes Cody on a flight and shows him her nest and unhatched eggs. Later, Cody falls into a trap set by the villainous poacher Percival C. McLeach . Finding a feather from Marahute on Cody, McLeach realizes the boy knows the location of the endangered bird and kidnaps him, intending to force the secret out of him.
