Kroeber - Alfred

Kroeber was obsessed with the nature of culture as a whole, viewing it as a phenomenon that exists independently of the individuals within it.

(1876–1960) was a monumental figure in American anthropology, often described as a "cultural historian" who helped transform the field into a rigorous academic discipline. A student of Franz Boas and the first professor of anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley , his work spanned ethnography, linguistics, and archaeology.
