Team Rocket plans to blow up the canyon with dynamite to uncover fossils more quickly. Ash and Squirtle try to stop the fuse, but Pikachu accidentally ignites the explosives with an electric attack. The blast opens a deep chasm, swallowing Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket.
Jigglypuff arrives and sings its lullaby, putting everyone to sleep—including Aerodactyl, who falls back into the chasm. Charizard manages to stay awake just long enough to catch the falling Ash and land safely before also falling asleep.
