In the penultimate episode of 1899, Maura discovers that the ocean-bound mystery is a failing, cyclical simulation created to bury her traumatic memories and that she is married to Daniel. As the simulation experiences critical failure, a massive, deadly storm results in the deaths of multiple characters, including Olek, Lucien, and the parents of Tove. The episode concludes with a vortex swallowing the Kerberos , transporting it to a ship graveyard filled with previous failed simulations.
